Today in "You're an idiot and got what you deserved!"

I have been quite clear in my abhorrence of douchebags. I have also been clear, I think, about my complete and total disgust with stupid people. What we have here is an instance where douchebag cops used Facebook to prosecute an idiot. Of course I don't have to pick a side here. Besides, doing so would be like me trying to pick a favorite in, say, a Giants/Cowboys game. (Incidentally, my rooting interest in that situation is usually a horrific natural disaster.) But for the sake of this argument I'm going to actually side with the douchebags for the sole reason that technically they were just doing their jobs and because the retard in question fucking deserved it for being such a moron.

Adam Bauer is a 19-year-old student at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Adam also has a Facebook page. Shocking, I know. Adam also likes to publish pictures on his FB page. And in a third mind blowing discovery, Adam also likes to get drunk. I'll give you a moment to wrap your head around that info. So Adam, being the brain dead teenager that he is, posted pictures of said alcoholic tendencies on his FB page for everyone to see. Even the hot girl who friend requested him that he didn't know but accepted anyway because, duh, her picture was of a hot chick! Unfortunately for Adam the hot piece of ass he thought wanted to bang him because, actually I don't know why, was actually the local police department!! Said police department proceeded to arrest Adam and charge him with underage drinking. Being the enlightened individual that he is, Bauer had some cookie cutter cliches to spew to the local paper.

I just can’t believe it. I feel like I’m in a science fiction movie, like they are always watching. When does it end?

Alright, listen up dumbass. It's not like the cops were arbitrarily wandering around campus knocking on random doors to find underage kids drinking. THAT would be a gross waste of resources. And they are not fucking Big Brother. They didn't bug your apartment. They didn't have a surveillance team following you all night. You were a fucking moron who took a picture of yourself while you were technically committing a crime. Then you posted it on a public website where others have access to it. The cops saw it and busted you. And you deserved it. Sure it was a shitty thing to do. You weren't really hurting anyone. You weren't driving. But YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE DRINKING AND YOU PUT PICTURES OF YOURSELF DOING IT ON THE INTERNET. My head hurts just thinking about how fucking stupid that is.

Stories like this pop up all the time. Kids get cited for underage drinking because of Facebook pictures. I remember at Penn State when local law enforcement used pictures to cite students involved in a riot. But holy shit. The argument is the same every single time. "Oh, the cops don't have anything better to do than sit in front of a computer?" Come the fuck on. While annoying some times, it is actually their job to find people breaking the law and punish them. Making their job easier by putting pictures of yourself doing stupid shit on the internet is not an acceptable reason to exhibit any kind of indignation. Being stupid in itself should be a crime, but until it is then I have no problem with people getting busted for other illegal shit they do because they were an idiot and took pictures.
